A member asked:

Do blood thinners actually allow the body to dissolve the clot slowly? confused how dvt is cured/treated if blood thinners don't work this way.

Blood thinners: 'Blood thinners' are anticoagulants. They prevent clotting of blood. The body has its own clot dissolving mechanisms. While the anitcoagulant prevents extension or new clots, the bodys thrombolytic system(clot dissolving/reabsorbing)mechanism dissoves the existing clot.

Blood thinners: The conventional blood thinners do not dissolve clot, but prevent clot propagation, and prevent the possibility of a pulmonary embolism.
