You can apply: Ice pack to the swollen area but take him to the emergency room to be checked out. Do not give him any pain medications that might affect his mental status.

Keep him comforable: It is often very difficult seeing your child getting hurt and having to see the beautiful face bruised and swollen is even harder. But fortunately children heal fast and well. If the skin is not torn and child is not in too much pain, u don't need to do much--just keep an eye on him/her. Tylenol/motrin if needed for pain. It should get better in 2-3 days. If worsens, consult doc. Good luck.
