A member asked:

Is there an anxiety or depression medicine available that will not get into breast milk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Expect all to enter: Expect anything you ingest during breast feeding to potentially show up at some level in the bm. Some common anti-depressants are considered less worrisome than others & more so if started after delivery. Paxil, zoloft & prosac are less worrisome than effexor, (venlafaxine) xanax or diazepam. Consider their use as a benefit to you both & not a reason to stop bf or avoid needed rx.
