Rhinoplasty surgeon: Good question . There are plastic surgeons who are expert in rhinoplasty and there are ENT surgeons who do very good rhinolplasty. Ask your doctor to guide you to a competent nose surgeon.

Research : Nowadays there are more avenues for obtaining information about doctors than there ever have been before. You can begin by asking friends or acquaintances who are happy with their rhinoplasty results for a referral, and use the web to look at the doctor's results, reviews and qualifications. After finding a competent, qualified surgeon it all comes down to who you feel most confident with.

Ask around: Check with your doctor, or friends and family for a nose specialist. If not go to aafprs.Org or other professional websites for plastic surgeons and use the physician locator.
Dr. Allison Holzapfel

Research: Obviously, you can research the web for surgeons, but asking around might give you even better info. When you do find a surgeon or two to work with, ask to see before and after pictures and make sure you agree with that surgeon's aesthetic ideal.

Best is to see work: The best way to find any surgeon is to get a recommendation from that surgeons patients. You want to actually talk to people that have been operated on in the case of cosmetic surgery you want to actually see their noses to make sure that you are comfortable with what that surgeon can do. Most cosmetic doctors will have lots of pictures of their good results but you want to talk to patients.

Referral: Best is referral by a patient who had one and is happy. The internet can help, or get a referral by your primary care doctor. Go to aafprs.Org and use the physician finder for a local facial plastic surgeon.

A 26-year-old female asked:

Ive heard there is a nonsurgical alternative for rhinoplasty. How does this work?

Dr. Andre Berger
Cosmetic Surgery 40 years experience
Injectable Fillers: Injection rhinoplasty is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure utilizing injectable fillers such as restylane, (dermal fillers) juvederm, Radiesse or artefill. It works best to straighten or to improve the look of noses with bumps or dips, but is not useful to issues related to the tips of noses. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes and results can last months to years, depending on the filler used.

Is it safe to get rhinoplasty when you have a cold?

Dr. David Astrachan
ENT and Head and Neck Surgery 37 years experience
Wait for the OR: As a surgeon the first rule is minimize risk. Having a cold means that you are not in perfect health. The cold can affect your breathing, irritate your lungs and airway. You should not have anesthesia when you are sick. It may be inconvenient but it is much safer.

Any systemic infection is a NO NO to having any kind of surgery. Please re schedule when you are better.

"Nose-job": Rhinoplasty is plastic-surgery intended to repair or reconstruct the nose. "anrhinoplasty" is not a real word.

Post surgery: It depends on your overall health. More medical or complex medical issues, the longer is the recovery.

How long does it take to fully recover from a cosmetic rhinoplasty?

Up to one year: Although most doctors say that the healing from a rhinoplasty is over in 6 months, it can take up to a year to fully recover.

Depends on "fully recover." Pain after rhinoplasty is not severe, and most swelling and bruising is gone in 4 weeks. The nose is sensitive if touched at that point, but not much more. After 4 weeks, there are some subtle changes in the nose, but most of the healing is done.
