A member asked:

What are dangerous medicines you should not take before being sedated for a tooth extraction?

Most: Narcotics or other sedatives, coumadin, (warfarin) too much Aspirin or Ibuprofen can cause adverse reactions or prolonged bleeding. The only meds you should take prior to being sedated are any prescriptions you have that you must take as advised by your doctor. The dentist or surgeon performing the extraction needs to discuss this with you during your consultation visit so that any complications are manged.

Varies: Many of the meds that may be recommended may not be best for all patients. Some meds promote bleeding which is a no no when getting extractions. Definitely has a consult prior to the treatment to determine what is best for your particular case
