Excellent: The way to start treatment for varicose veins is to treat the underlying source. In the us, this is generally done with endovenous laser treatment (evlt) or endovenous rf. These are minor procedures that are done in an office with local anesthetic. They cause minimal pain, little down time, and work very well. You will probably still have to do something about the squiggley visible veins though.

Yes: Evlt is a minimially-invasive alternative to stripping. For the right vein problem it is a treatment with a high success rate and low complication rate. Evlt is typically done to treat incompetent veins below the skin that are feeding into surface varicose veins. Consult a knowledgeable and experienced vein physician for a proper evaluation and treatment plan. See http://www.Phlebology.Org/.

Yes: In experienced hands, laser ablation is more than 90% effective in eliminating abnormal flow in the treated vein, with a complication rate below 3-5%. However, ablation is rarely sufficient to treat a patient's disease without adjunctive procedures. It should be part of a program of treatment to address the entirety of a patient's vein disease.
