New Drug approved: The fda approved a new drug, lorcaserin (lorquess) today, 6/27/12. While it did lead to weight loss, that loss was pretty low - just 5-6 kg (11-13 pounds), so it's not expected to be the answer for many people's weight problems.

FDA approved Belviq (lorcaserin): The first new drug in years was just approved by the us fda. Belviq (lorcaserin hydrochloride) is for weight management in obese patients and in overweight who have a weight-related problem. It reportedly is seen as an aid in addition to exercise and low-calorie diet. Here is the 6-27-12 press release; we will know more later. http://www.fda.gov/newsevents/newsroom/pressannouncements/ucm309993.htm.

Qnexa and Belviq (lorcaserin): Fda recently approved 2 new drugs that should be available by prescription only, in late 2012/early 2013. Qnexa consists of the two prescription drugs Phentermine and topiramate. Belviq® (lorcaserin hci) behaves as an appetite suppressant which helps patients lose weight by essentially causing them to feel less hunger sensations. You should see a weight loss specialist for more information.
