A member asked:

Is it possible that a vegan diet could obscure kidney disease in lab tests? is an egfr of 79 in a diabetic with low blood protein kidney disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could be: A normal eGFR is higher than 90. Vegans have lower creatinine than meat eaters, and should have higher eGFR. Creatinine is the main factor in determining eGFR. It would be prudent to consult a nephrologist to rule out treatable issues and to have a close follow-up.
