MRSA: Your husband is not likely to be "contagious" to others. The primary purpose of nasal screening is to demonstrate that he is colonized with this organism and if undergoing procedures producing breaks in the integument (skin and mucous membranes) he is then at risk of developing infection with this organism. In addition to mupirocin he should bathe with soap containing chlorhexidine only.
