Heel pain: If the pain is directly beneath the heel bone (calcaneus), then it is probably a heel spur or fx. If slightly to the front of the heel, then it could be plantar fasciitis (similar to an inflamed tendon). If it is at the Achille's tendon, then you have a tendonitis in that large tendon. Go back to see your podiatrist or your family doc. Orthotics or gel pads and anti-inflammatories can help.

Recheck: Sometimes the heel and the ligaments are damaged and it takes a while to heal. Sometimes it requires more shots and more wrapping as well as good support in your shoes. Followup with you podiatrist to see what other treatments he has. Avoid walking on hard surfaces maybe ice it at night wear good shoes do not walk barefoot He should be able to help you but it does take time

MRI,Physical Therapy: I suggest an MRI to rule out stress fracture of the heel which x-ray will not show. Also physical therapy is beneficial in relieving the pain.

Heel pain: you may not have a fracture, but you may have torn some fibers of the plantar fascia at its insertion into the heel bone. This is very painful, and the foot should be non weightbearing with use of crutches and/ or pneumatic Camwalker. An MRI will give a definitive diagnosis.

That's normdl: Hi Dan That's normal to have the pain return right after a cortisone injection. It usually takes 2-3 days for the medication to kick in. I would recommend icing the area twice a day, taping and using an anti inflammatory for three days. Make sure you stay in good stable shoes. Hope you feel better soon.

Pain sometimes: Doesn't go away immediately. If you had a quick jerking motion some fibers from the Achilles may of been strained. Soak your feet in warm water and Epsom salt, use a small heel lift to preload the Achilles, stretching is helpful. In the event the pain is under the heel then an arch support is helpful during say and night splint at night. Your foot doc will know what all these things are.

See answer below: Beside the injection and tapping there are other procedures needed such as a night resting splint to strech plantar fascia, some unloading of the heel with heel cup, antiinflamatories and specially exercises to strech plantar fascia and achilles tendon

Heel pain: If there is no obvious fracture to your foot, there may be an associated stress fracture or a plantar fascia tear. Ask for an MRI to see if there is a tear associated with your pain. Try to avoid the cortisone shot and ask to be immobilized in a walking boot and see if this improves your condition. Have a new xray taken in two weeks to rule out a stress fracture. You may try stretching too.
