: The equivalent of a bone scuff or bruise can be as painful for some as a break. The nerve endings are on the outside of the bone. It may just need more time. If it remains a problem an x-ray taken 2 weeks after an injury can reveal subtle changes of healing that would point out a hidden break/crack.
