Follow instructions: and you will be fine. Tooth extraction is a surgical procedure and is not completely risk-free. Pain, swelling and infection following surgery is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery. After that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. Your symptoms could be a serous problem. See your dentist or an oral surgeon for post-op appointment and treatment.

Yes, it will fill: on its own. The gum tissue will grow over the bony socket and fill in rapidly. It can take from a few weeks to a month or so for you to not feel any remnants of the socket. Any concerns about your healing should be answered by your surgeon.

Usually: Providing no debris is getting impacted in the socket it usually takes between 2 and 5 weeks for total healing. Many times I bring the patient back a week later to wash out the socket to expedite the healing

Implant consult: The most beneficial way to treat an extraction is with a through treatment plan prior to the extraction, so you can plan for an implant to replace the tooth extracted. Did the treating dentist do a bone graft/membrane procedure? Check with the dentist if you have any concerns -re- healing, time lag etc. Make sure not to smoke, as this delays healing.

Normal: Socket will fill in on its own. Should happen gradually over a few months. Unless there is an occlusion reason to do so, wisdom teeth do not need to be replaced. If you are concerned about your healing process have your General Dentist or Oral Surgeon evaluate the surgical site.

6 weeks: It takes about 6 weeks for complete healing. The bone edges shrink down and the hole (socket) fills from the bottom up. If I am going to replace the tooth I will wait 6 weeks to allow for complete healing so that I can make a better fitting replacement.
