Minimal: At 47, your risk is much higher than it would be at 18-25--your ability to heal is lower due to the decreased concentration of stem cells in your blood. If you are a non-smoker and healthy, the increased vascularity of the upper jaw (relative to the lower) results in minimal dry socket risk. Follow your doc's post-op instructions to the letter--you should do fine.

Dry socket: Dry socket occurs more commonly in the lower teeth and in smokers. Follow the post op instructions that you were given by your dentist. No smoking, no rinsing, don't drink with a straw, soft diet and you will have a low risk of dry socket.

Dry Socket: Also, keep in mind dry socket is much more prevalent after removing lower wisdom teeth. Although too early to predict whether you will develop dry socket, refraining from tobacco products, drinking through a straw, or vigorous rinsing, will help prevent the onset of dry socket.
