A member asked:

I take 5 mg of methimazole daily for hyperthyroidism. what do i do before or after a ct scan with iodine contrast?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Iodine hyperthyroid: The iodine load of a CT scan can sometimes stimulate the thyroid to make more T4 and T3 (liothyronine) and worsen hyperthyroidism. But it probably will not, especially if your hyperthyroidism is controlled and you are taking your methimazole. Talk to your doctor. You may want to get your thyroid blood level checked about 2-4 weeks after the CT scan.
