Diagnosis: There are many possible reasons a tooth can hurt. You have to understand the source of the problem before you can select the correct treatment. Find a dentist you trust and go through the process to determine if a root canal treatment is appropriate. This isn't a simple cookbook process and you can participate by asking questions and following the logic of it.

Deep restoration: If you have a deep restoration, it may have affected the integrity and health of the nerve. Antibiotics are for infections for teeth where the nerve has died. Do you have a dead nerve? Then you need root canal therapy for sure. If the nerve is alive, then why the antibiotics?
