It is a start: But for most people, self-help does not deliver the perspective and objectivity that a trained therapist or psychiatrist use to diagnose and treat. In addition, there are shortcuts that an experienced professional offers. Even if you are just as knowledgeable as a therapist, you will have much less experience and thus be less able to anticipate common pitfalls and miss out on possible shortcuts.

No and yes: No, because a good psychologist gives you objectivity that you usually don't get anywhere else. It's through this objectivity that you are able to see yourself clearly. Yes, ONLY if you can be honest with yourself, let down your defenses (meaning you need to know them), let go of the things you can't change, forgive others, forgive yourself and find a way every day to be grateful for being alive.
