A member asked:

If you have an abcess tooth and infection spreads into jaw will removing the tooth get rid of remaining infection or does jaw need to be drained?

Extraction: Removing the abscessed tooth will remove the source of the infection and can ususally be done even if there is some swelling. A diabetic is at higher risk of complications from infections so see an oral surgeon asap.

Extraction: That should cure the infection, but sometimes antibiotics are also required. Antibiotics alone will fix not the problem. Need to be seen and evaluated and treated.
