A member asked:

How dangerous is the ketogenic diet for the type 2 diabetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not dangerous: People get 'ketosis' mixed up with 'keto-acidosis'. Ketosis is the process of burning fat for energy instead of sugar or muscle. This is definitely a GOOD thing for type 2 diabetics. Keto-acidosis is a very dangerous condition that occurs in type 1 diabetics when they are not taking in enough insulin. I have had MANY diabetic 2 patients do with with ketogenic eating plans (sensible)
