Abnormal ALT: If you have fluctuation of liver associated enzymes, you need to have further work up to determine the cause. There are many causes for this fluctuation and would be difficult to pinpoint without further information.

Do not take: Acetaminophen till the cause of elevated alt is resolved. If you drink alcohol, stop completely for three months to repeat the test. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. Discuss getting tested for hepatitis, with your doctor.
