That depends on : Multiple variables including the type of scoliosis as well as any associated conditions. The most typical type is idiopathic scoliosis which for most requires no treatment but occasionally bracing may be indicated if skeletally immature and curve shows signs of progression or is of large enough size at diagnosis with 1% needing surgery. Some can cause back pain if in the lumbar region with age.
