Ideas vary: Since you're also hypertensive and on a statin, you may want to visit with your physician about treating this. From my reading, the final verdict isn't in. Some folks will treat the elevated lab value with niacin, but whether this is wise while you're getting a statin is a question for someone focused on managing atherosclerosis risk.

Fix cause or niacin: Lipoprotein (a), [Lp(a)], is an LDL particle with an extra protein, apolipoprotein (a), attached to it. Increased Lp(a) is most commonly inherited. Other causes include hypothyroidism, chronic kidney disease, and increased trans fat intake. If one of these problems is present it should be treated. High Lp(a) does increase cardiovascular risk. Niacin can lower Lp(a) but has adverse effects.
