A member asked:

What does low hdl with the rest of my cholesterol being in the normal range mean? is it concerning? hdl is 39, ldl is 67, triglycerides: 104, chol/hdlc ratio: 3.2, non hdl cholesterol 86, cholesterol, total: 125?

This lipid profile is excellent! There is nothing to worry about and in large population studies with total cholesterol lower than 150, heart disease is almost non existent. If your LDL cholesterol is low, there is not much need to have a high HDL cholesterol either. In very simple terms, think about HDL as a vehicle to remove/counteract LDL.

Regular exercise can raise HDL and that will improve your lipid profile and have other health benefits as well. Get HPV, Flu and Covid vaccines. Wish you good health!
