Braces: Teeth should not be whitened while wearing braces. The whitening, if it works at all, will work only where the teeth are not covered by the brackets, leaving blotchy light and dark areas. The most important thing to do to keep your teeth from getting stained is brush and floss thoroughly after every meal and at bedtime. Follow the oral hygiene advice of your dental hygienist.

Wait: Bleaching while braces are on will only affect the part of the tooth not covered by braces. Thus when braces removed there will be darker blotches where the braces were attached. Wait until after your Orthodontist removes your braces before having your Dentist whiten them.
