Just Ask: If you are unhappy with the look of your teeth and want them straighter, ask your dentist for a referral to an orthodontic specialist. Only an orthodontic specialist has spent 2-3 year after dental school to concentrate soley on the treatment of malocclusions. If he won't refer you to one, ask friends for a recommendation.

Call: Unless you have the type of insurance that requires referral from the gp to a specialist, you don't need your dentist to give you anything. Just pick up the phone and call the orthodontist's office directly. They will be pleased to help you resolve your concerns.
