Ortho Tx / TMJ: Orthodontic treatment does not cause TMJ/TMD. In a study performed many years ago, it was determined from sample patients who had ortho tx vs patients that did not have ortho tx there is a similar incidence of TMJ/TMD in each population pool. Patients with active TMJ/TMD could have issues with ortho tx unless the TMJ/TMD is resolved prior to commencing with ortho treatment.

Relapse: When patients do not wear their orthodontic retainers, the teeth will shift. The options are as follows: 1) do nothing and except the movement 2) stop the movement with new retainers 3) retreatment with either fixed braces or possibly clear aligners. W/o seeing your particular case, it is impossible to determine the best course of action.

Overbite: Only an orthodontic specialist with reviewing complete beginning orthodontic records can fully answer your question. "Overbites" can be a result of a multitude of etiologies and based on the exact reason, a treatment plan can be put in place to correct your exact overbite. There is no "cookbook" treatment for overbites. Is it dental, skeletal, combination?
