Possibly: Have you had some phenotypic testing for metabolism of medications? There are some people whose liver isoenzymes do not do well processing certain medications, such as those which use cytochrome p450 2d6, etc. Wellbutrin (bupropion) requires a different isoenzyme for its metabolism, and may not be affected. It sounds like your doctor is trying to get you benefits while lowering risk of side effects.

Metabolism affects: Response to antidepressants. Lowering dose or taking med every other day may improve tolerability. Give med time to work (3-8 wks at best tolerated dose). Work with prescriber. In many, meds may produce partial response at best. Therapy and healthy habits (sleep/exercise/nutrition) are very helpful and powerful in depression. A person's self-attitude has major impact. Best regards for relief soon.

You have already: Received excellent input from two psychiatrists. I wanted to reinforce the message about attitude being important., with dysthymia, a person's view of themself and the world sets them up to be self-critical and jaded. Regardless or what medication you take ; what dose you are on, i very much hope you are working aggressively in therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can have a very beneficial >.
