Yes, if you went: to see a psychiatrist for anxiety and depression, why not try what they are suggesting? You may want to speak with a psychologist about psychotherapy as well, but in the meantime the medication can give you relief from the symptoms faster than psychotherapy.

Your choice: You need to weigh out the risks and benefits. The risk of taking is possible side effects. Many of my patients experience no side effects or only mild side effects on their psychotropic medications. The risk of not taking includes making slower progress in helping symptoms. Some people with more severe conditions may not get well.
