Allergic?: Possibly not allergy. May be response to Effexor (venlafaxine) which is different from ssri's. Need to know more. Why taking effexpr, previous meds, problem being medicated? Answers would help give you the answers you seek. Tell your doctor what's happening when you see him.

SSRIs: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssris) are considered the best choice for treatment of depression if you can tolerate one of them. I am sure that your physician will advice you about the best one for you.

Several depends : The allergy doesnt eliminate all ssri. Alternative are wellbutrin or lexapro. Effexor (venlafaxine) has a duel action which may be the problem.
