Guess...: Since you were not examined, your doctor is using his/her clinical judgement in saying that this is costochondritis. This is certainly a more common cause for chest pain in someone your age. But it sounds like you are questioning the diagnosis. With that said, the best advice i can give is for you to make an appointment and discuss your symptoms in person.
