See ID specialist: There may be several reasons that the staph infection returns - 1) that the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics given (particularly true with methicillin resistant staph aureus - also known as mrsa); 2) that there is an underlying site or foreign body that is causing the infection to return after antibiotics are done; or 3) have an underlying immune defect (for example, job syndrome).
