Mesh Complications: Depending on the type of mesh used (i.e., sling for incontinence or larger mesh kits for prolapse) the symptoms can include: difficulty urinating, urinary infections, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, bleeding  with/after intercourse, vaginal mesh exposure, mesh erosion into other organs, pain with bowel movements.  For slings, the complication rate is low ~ 5-10%. High for mesh kits ~30-35%.

See details: If you had a partial hysterectomy, then you will not get a period.  If the cervix was left behind, sometimes it can be a source of blood.  More concerning is that you have vaginal bleeding and this is in the setting of vaginal mesh.  You need an exam to make sure that there are no vaginal erosions or exposure of the mesh material.

Probably not: They are very hard to see with ct.  Centers that are expert in this field sometimes do specialized ultrasound with fluid infusion during the scan to visualize the mesh.

Safe + options: Yes, a midurethral sling is safe with a complication rate less than 5-8%.  The current surgical options for treatment of stress urinary incontinence (leakage of urine with cough, sneeze, lifting, laughing, etc) include:  midurethral slings (best ones are ones placed behind the pubic bone), and the Burch procedure (suspending the vaginal wall to the back of the pubic bone).

Revision: Although not very common, we have seen some complications related to permanent grafts or mesh used for vaginal repairs and urethral slings. Painful sex is not normal and if it has been more than occasional, should be evaluated by your gyn surgeon or another one with experience in vaginal repair and grafts.
