Follow the tortoise: If you and your doctor think you're healthy enough for p90x, start with the one that is less intense and looks more fun.  Studies show that building up in intensity leads to greater sustained behavior changes like exercise.  If you go too hard too fast, like most of us do, you're likely to become too sore to resume or even may develop an injury that would lead you way of track.

I looked at the : hype online. Both seem questionable to me. The 60 day insanity program seems too short and may lead to rapid weight loss that may come back just as quickly. I would have a physical before doing any extreme workout program.  I would recommend starting exercising gradually and increasing it over time. Find exercises that you enjoy and can continue for life not for just 60 days.

Weight Loss: There is no fixed formula, it depends on you much you adhere to their exercises which are usually not for beginners. 
Also, you should focus on your diet and aim for 1 to 2 lb a week for weight loss to remain healthy.

Not for the beginner: These workouts either singly or in combination are extreme.  The diet is specific to each separate exercise program and the rest periods may not feel like rest.

Do consult a physician and even a personal trainer at first.

Lots of choices.: While you may be tempted to focus on a high protein diet, the well balanced diet of vegetables (dark green,) colorful fruits and vegetables (yellow, red and purple) and protein (nuts and legumes) are all great for the work out lifestyle.  If you find yourself losing weight (checking weekly,) then add more nuts and perhaps avocado.  They have healthy energy fats.

Know your limits: Any exercise program performed in the correct way by an appropriate candidate is "good." however, not all of us are appropriate for some of these high intensity programs like insanity and p90x. My advice would be to know your limits and pace yourself.  Swallow your pride and modify the program if needed. I have seen numerous overuse injuries that prevented people from completing these programs.

Insanity is a legal: term and is not used in mental health work.  There are many forms of mental illness.  Clear and present danger to self or others is what the law looks for.  Mental health pros look at function and comfort as well.  Peace and good health.

A LOT!!: This is super general. Insanity can mean different things to different people. First go and talk to someone to see what the issues are and then you can go from there. Is it anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, or stress.

Rather it refers to a severely disordered state of mind; an unsound mind leading to an inability to understand limiting ones legal capacity, as in to stand trial. Such a mental state could occur in many conditions leading to alteration in brain function.

Yes: I'm assuming you mean the infomercial program.  I have done it and it works.  It is very intense.  Not for beginners.  If you are a beginner and want to try, i suggest doing small pieces of the workouts.  Warm up and stretch.  Maybe one series.  Get used to it first.
