Primitive diet: The idea of the Paleo diet is that we should eat what primitive man ate and this should make us healthier.  Many doctors are concerned that this diet is too high in red meat and does not allow vegetable oils such as olive oil, both of which may increase your heart attack risk.  Additionally, no dairy products are allowed which may cause calcium deficiency.  Also no grains or legumes are allowed.

"Practical Paleo": If you want to learn more about the paleo food plan, diane sanfilippo has a helpful book called "practical paleo" that explains the process and provides many recipes.  The idea is really to eliminate processed foods, sugars, grains, etc in favor of "real food, " including grass-fed meats, eggs, vegetables. Good but not easy: In certain respects it makes a lot of sense- eating the same whole foods our distant ancestors ate. Many modern illnesses are related to sugars & many people have a hard time with dairy, gluten etc.But i don't think everyone needs to avoid all dairy, grains, legumes etc. All the time.You might try it & see how you feel & perhaps try some of the foods avoided on occasion to see how they affect you.

Yes, to do it right!: The paleo diet tries to reproduce the diet of our distant ancestors, who ate wild fish and game, not grains etc. Grain-fed meat is not as healthy ; the pd advises only grass-fed meat ; wild fish. Our ancestors did not eat food with pesticides and gmo's and the only way to avoid those these days is to eat mostly organic- though some foods like onions are ok if not organic. Probably overkill: Celiac disease should get better with avoidance of gluten alone (wheat, rye, barley products). Paleo diet does not involve grains so it should be compatible but goes beyond that into raw foods which should not be an issue for celiac disease patients. Hope this helps!

No: There is no sound nutritional reason to use this diet, but if you choose to do so it's likely you'll lose substantial weight during the first few weeks.  This happens with almost any major diet manipulation.  Unfortunately, almost everybody gains the weight back.  Best course is a  balanced, low-calorie diet including all food groups that can be sustained for life plus vigorous regular exercise.

Diet incorporates meats, fish, fruits, nuts ; vegetables w attempts to avoid junk foods ; grains. Frequent, varied exercise, use of complex natural body movements, exposure to sun, time w nature, simplifying life, adequate sleep, stress-free periods ; close social groups for are just some aspects of a paleo life.
