Routine STD tests usually do not test for it. It can cause urethritis and watery discharge and can be passed via sex. Any infection should cause concern. Re. use prophylaxis. Good luck

Most experts do not recommend testing for M. genitalium unless there is persistent urethritis after standard treatment. Testing is not recommended in absence of symptoms. There are no data on whether asymptomatic infections should be treated. Probably not.
