A member asked:

If you had an std and gave a urine sample for a standard uti screen, would bacteria from std be mistaken for just a uti?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually not: STD screening and or germ testing must be ordered specifically because the germs involved require specialized testing and or growth media. Some UTI screening is based on presence of pus cells, which might cause a STD to be mistaken for a UTI.The best UTI screening is based on a culture which would miss the STD.
