I have pain at the base of my penis on the left side which gets worse when touched and feels firmer than right side. ultrasound showed variocele and hydrocele but urologist said it was not too concerning. pain has persisted for 3 weeks?

I would recommend you follow-up with the urologist if the pain is persistent. If you just saw them, you could also consider getting a second opinion to examine you and review the ultrasound. There are times when those issues need surgery, although they are usually observed. I would wonder whether there is also a hernia there which may not be seen at times.

I presume the urologist examined area of complaints before giving opinion. Hydroceles and varicoceles do not cause the symptoms you have. If not better in a few days have your Urologist see you again.
