Ankle swelling: In the later trimester of pregnancy, additional weight and edema to the ower extremities can caue swelling of the ankles and feet. If you have bad veins, or during the pregnancy you've developed venous insufficiency or varicose veins, this can also cause ankle swelling. Get off you feet during the day, elevate them, and if necessary wear support stockings.

See your doc: It's common for feet to swell during the last trimester. It is also common to have one ankle/leg to swell more than the other. When one leg is swollen much more than the other, while it may be normal, it is important to have it evaluated by your physician to determine if it i normal or if it is something more serious - toxemia, blood clot, etc.

Not necessarily : As long as your blood pressure is normal and you do not have protein in your urine the swelling may not be a serious problem. You can elevate your feet and wear compression hose to help reduce your swelling but always follow up with your ob/gyn and let him or her know the swelling is happening.
