Sprain: Probably twisted ankle and sprain. Rest, ice, and ibuprofen may resolve. If unable to bear weight on it after2-3 days get X-rays.

Edema: If both ankles are affected and not painful, the most likely cause is edema, or fluid retention. This a very common if you happen to be traveling over this holiday weekend due to prolonged sitting, and increased salt intake from fast foods/restaurant/cookout foods. To get rid of edema, cut way back on salt, drink water, avoid sitting, walk around a lot, and consider swimming.
