Conservative: Zinc based over the counter preparations (like zycam) exist, some studies have shown efficacy in shortening the whole process. Use safe otc meds for symptoms (nsaids, nasal drops, etc), with moderation. Avoid infecting other people around you, particularly babies, pregnant women, old people. Wash your hands. Cough on your sleeve. Have some rest, and if it worsens or persists, consult your dr.

Common Cold: Likely the common cold or seasonal allergies that have kicked up. Try a salt water wash a couple of times, a little rest and sleep, some cough drops and healthy but gentle and warm foods.

Probably a cold: Symptoms will include: sore throat, nasal congestion & drainage and a cough. Fever is usually low-grade (<102) and fatigue, malaise & generalized achiness are common in the first days of a viral upper respiratory illness (aka cold). No medication is curative. Symptomatic relief, rest, fluids, etc are best. See a doctor if fever persists, cough severe or yellow-green mucus > 7 days.

Viral URI: Sounds as if you have a viral upper respiratory tract infection or allergy. This does not need antibiotic treatment, but using otc meds to relieve your symptoms would certainly be appropriate. Hope you are better soon.

No cure: Modern medicine has no cure for the common cold. Antihistamines and decongestants, analgesics, (for example: pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, diphenhyramine, ibuprofen, acetaminophen) are all helpful but you can expect to still be miserable for 2-3 days and have milder symptoms for 7-10 days. Deepest sympathies! stay away from others. Get lots of rest
