Do i have to perform the "cough test" on an 8 year old girl?

Confusing question: In three decades plus as a pediatrician I have never heard the term cough test applied to a girl. Some use the lay term to describe a hernia evaluation in a standing teen male, but i can not immagine anyone doing such an exam on an 8 year old girl. If a hernia is suspected in a girl it is generally higher up and can be found laying down by asking her to bear down.( found one this spring).
