How severe?: Depends on how severe the gum disease is. Can take several treatments and many months.

Depends: A deep cleaning is just phase i of what can be done for you. You should have a deep cleaning once, and if your gum disease is still present, you may need to proceed to the next phase of gum treatment--surgery. Repeated deep cleanings is not the best way to be treated.

Gum disease-braces: If ortho tx is indicated and something you want to undertake or it is part of a comprehensive tx plan, the periodontal health is phase 1 and needs to be assured and maintained prior to any movement that causes breakdown and remolding of the bone around the roots of your teeth like orthodontic tx does. A generic time factor is impossible to place on this without seeing dental records and patient.
