Gum care: Dental care can be harder with braces. However, with good, regular dental care, you're gums should become healthy and stop being swollen. Floss daily (thread it beneath the braces), brush after meals, use a water pik, and see your dentist & orthodontist regularly. If you follow this and still have problems, talk with your dentist/orthodontist about other considerations.

Brush: Gum tissue needs food moving across it to stimulate it. With appliances on one must brush the gum tissue as the food will not due to the braces interfering with their usual action.

Remove: Remove the cause of the swelling, which is almost invariably bacteria. Brush 2x/day for 2full minutes by the clock. Ask your Orthodontist to show you proper Orthodontic brushing technique. Floss and/or WaterPik DAILY. Discuss Disclosing Tablets with the Dentist or Orthodontist that is treating you. If inflammation persists, see a Periodontist.
