No: No respected orthodontist will treat a patient with unresolved gum disease and loose teeth. Besides, why straighten teeth that will likely fall out in time if the periodontal (gum) issues are not resolved? Get your basic dentistry taken care of first and take it from there.

Yes if treated: Gum disease is simply inflammation of gum and possibly attachment loss which reduces the strength of tooth anchorage in braces. If treated and the gum disease controlled and maintained, orthodontic therapy can begin. In many cases, malocclusion contributes to exacerbation of gum disease and thus braces will help to maintain and treat the problems. Light wire technique in braces will help!

Not likely: Any dentist doing braces would be quite worried if you had current gum disease. Consult with your general dentist and an orthodontist.

Not yet: First you must resolve infection issues such as gum disease and cavities. Once your mouth is healthy Orthodontic treatment can be considered. No ethical Orthodontic Specialist will treat you until infection issues are resolved. So talk to your General Dentist, a qualified Orthodontist, AND a qualified Periodontist (gum/bone specialist) to arrive at a coordinated treatment plan. Good luck.
