Temporary Treatment: An OTC pain med will help alleviate some of the pain, but you should really see your orthodontist to discuss this situation. It is unknown which teeth are missing and why your maxillary molar has super-erupted.

Good hygiene: Make sure you keep the area very clean, you'll collect more debris with braces and that can take longer to resolve. Warm salt water or salt water/peroxide rise may help. Take ibuprofen to reduce swelling. May need an antibiotic in addition. Condition painful but not serious.

Lower wisdom tooth: The pain may be throbbing and radiate to the ear, throat, temporomandibular joint. When wisdom teeth cause problems, they need to come out. If you are experiencing pain, swollen gums, lymph nodes and it does not go away or if you find it difficult to open your mouth, you should see a dentist for evaluation, x-ray and wisdom teeth removal.

Sore gum: You need to have the damaged gum treated. May need to adjust or reposition teeth, or reshape the gum tissue. Please see either your Dentist or your specialist Orthodontist for advice.
