If a 17 year old has a failed suicide attempt and is taken to a hospital to get surgery but has no insurance what happens? (and is extremely broke)

Hospital bill: His family can apply for charity care, he is still a minor.

Social worker: Ask to see a social worker. A 17 yo (or anyone else) can get medical assistance or other financial aid if the surgery is necessary and if they qualify. Hospitals never turn away someone who needs life saving surgery. Don't expect them to cover a cosmetic surgery though.

Possibly nothing: If the surgery is an emergency like appendicitis it will get done. If it is an elective surgery like a tummy tuck or a bladder suspension you are going home.
