Depends on drops: Most over the counter drops should be fine to use. Even prescription eye drops will not generally affect cataract development, with the exception of steroids.

Yes: Dry eye is the most common cause of eye irritation (can be due to meibomian gland disease/blepharitis or rosacea), - can be chronic if not addressed properly. Use lid hygiene (info: eyedoc2020.blogspot.com) routine, artificial tears (non-preserved tears are best) for relief.
