For chronic allergies, azelastine is a lot safer. Fluticasone is a potent steroid that should not be used for more than six weeks continuously. The risk for cataract is lifetime and the risk of glaucoma from steroid responsive intraocular pressure elevation is real and can lead to permanent vision loss. The same is true for mometasone.
