Neck ultrasound: Since we were not present at the ultrasound, your best explainer would be the doctor who performed the test. Ultrasounds can pick up thyroid nodules, cystic structures, etc -- but from your comments i cannot tell what your doctor noticed. Please ask him or her for more details. Best wishes.

Thyroid nodule: Cheetah: you were probably getting a carotid artery sonogram and they saw a nodule on your thyroid. Thyroid nodules are very common and not usually cancerous. They will often recommend a thyroid ultrasound to check for other nodules and correlate that with your thyroid bloodwork.
