A member asked:

My doctor has sent me for an ultrasound because of lumps in my neck, what could the test find? could something be wrong if he's asked for a test?

Maybe yes or no: It all depends where is the lump located. On the sides of your neck it can be lymph nodes. Question is only one side affected or both lateral sides. Under the jaw bone it can be a salivary gland and in the middle of your neck it can be the thyroid gland. If any suspicion is found a fine needle biopsy should be done too under ultrasound guidance.

Not to worry yet: Depends on the location and size of the lump. Sometimes "lump" is normal neck tissue or just a small lymph node. Getting an ultrasound doesn't necessarily something is wrong. Ultrasound of the neck can survey lymph nodes, salivary and thyroid glands, etc.
