For what reasons might a doctor make a teen get a thyroid ultrasound?

Several reasons: Ultrasound is very good for determinig if there is a thyroid nodule or the gland is big or small. If the doctor felt something on exam, they would want to further characterize it. Also, if the thyroid function tests are abnormal, that could prompt and ultrasound exam.

I have 2 lymph nodes in my neck that are over 3cm long, been that way slowly growing for 4 years. FNA was clear. Ultrasound looks normal beyond size. Doctors are saying Im fine should I trust them? Doesnt that size seem too big with no cause?
